DAVE BILBROUGH
PEOPLE OF PROMISE
Hard to categorise, I’d say he’s “Urban-Brit in a
London
folk-pop style”. There’s nothing hackneyed or insipid about this undertaking. Modest Dave Bilbrough is one of the undisputed principals of the Brit P&W scene of this generation, and here’s yet more first-rate new produce on ceremony. Highly prolific in supply of such material and ‘on-the-road’ worldwide, this latest self-released CD will boost his well respected popularity in UK & Europe. For 30 years, Dave’s repertoire titles have spanned “heaven-ward psalms”, “goodtime toe-tapping ditties” and “introspective choruses” in good balance. He enjoys a reputation highly deserved with vocal and performing superiority and integrity that stands out. This new studio set (with his family in train) was recorded “live” to gain a sense of spontaneity which is exhibited well in this display of mainly new songs. Thankfully this CD is lacking the usual squeaky-clean atmosphere of a studio’s sterile confines. Music is catchy and beguiling from the start to the finish. Yes it is simple, but why not?
HIGH: A wonderfully competent composer-performer,
LOW: Needs more promo in the media before general public will delight in his engaging heartwarming ditties.
